The "poison capsule" incident refers to some enterprises in Hebei who treated leather waste with quicklime, boiled it into industrial gelatin, and sold it to some enterprises in Xinchang, Shaoxing to make medicinal capsules. Such capsules often contain excessive amounts of heavy metal chromium. Chromium is an essential trace element and a very toxic heavy metal. The 2010 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia clearly stipulates that the content of chromium in medicinal capsules and gelatin materials should not exceed 2 mg/kg. Among the 13 batches of medicines produced by 9 pharmaceutical factories that have been confirmed to contain problems, the Yanlixiao Capsules of Tonghua Yisheng Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. exceeded the standard by more than 90 times the normal chromium content standard.     

On April 16, the State Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency notice to suspend the sale and use of 13 medicinal hollow capsule products. It also stated that the relevant provincial food and drug administrations have been instructed to carry out supervision and inspection and product inspections on the excess chromium of medicinal hollow capsules reported by the media, and sent personnel to the scene to conduct inspections.     

In fact, this incident brought the hot topic of "food and drug safety" to the forefront again in recent years. Food safety problems are emerging one after another. Although the state has repeatedly ordered and strictly enforced them, people still do not understand, who should ensure food safety problems? How can we guarantee it?
